We are fast approaching the day when we will celebrate the ordination of Deacon James to the priesthood. This will be a major celebration in the life of the Cathedral and thus we have identified some preparations that need to be made. We know that many of your will want to support and gift our new priest, as is customary and accordingly we have identified these areas where we would welcome your support:
A Chasuble & Vestments Deacon James will celebrate his first Mass at the Cathedral on Sunday 23rd June, the Feast of Corpus Christi. Father James, as he will be then, will have new Chasuble (the outer garment worn by the priest, during the celebration of Holy Mass). We would appreciate contributions towards that vestment. It is a most precious gift and one that be treasured by Father James throughout his priestly life.
A Holiday Deacon James will also need a well earnt break after his ordination, and we would like to pay for his holiday. You may not appreciate that Deacon James has never had a “proper” holiday and we would like to make sure that he can go away as a gift from us all.
Hospitality Deacon James will of course be inviting family, friends and fellow students from his former seminary to the Ordination. We too as the parish will be welcome to be a part of the special days of his ordination day and the first Mass. We would like to cater for the many hundreds of people who will be there with us. We will provide food and hospitality for the guests here at the Cathedral.
