Monsignor Bart Nannery from the Office of the Bishop
I am writing to let you know of an important change which is due to take place at the Cathedral and in the Parish, this summer. After twenty-eight years as Dean of the Cathedral, and Parish Priest of the Cathedral Parish, Monsignor Bart is stepping back from these roles at the end of July. I want to express my thanks to him for the outstanding service and commitment that he has shown, both in the Cathedral and in the Parish, over the many years. Many have cause to be grateful for his generosity, warm welcome and faithful dedication.
The new Dean and Parish Priest is to be Fr Mark O'Keeffe, presently Parish Priest in Paignton, and I am sure that you will all make him very welcome when he arrives. The cathedral and its parish, are very important in the life of our Diocesan Church and I know that Fr Mark will continue to build on the excellent work that Mgr Bart has undertaken over the years.
You will be aware that Mgr Bart will be celebrating his Golden Jubilee of Priesthood in the Cathedral on Saturday 16th June. That will be an occasion when we can also express our gratitude for his years of faithful service, and before he goes to live in Devonport, where he will be able to exercise a new priestly ministry at a more relaxed pace.
Mgr Bart's last weekend here will be 28/29 July, and Fr Mark will move into Cathedral house one or two days afterwards. I know that you will keep both Mgr Bart and Fr Mark, and the whole Cathedral Parish, very much in your prayers during these months.
Please pray for me, too.
Yours devotedly, Rt Rev Mark O'Toole Bishop of Plymouth
Father Peter Coxe
Our priest in residence, Father Peter, will also be leaving us shortly for a new assignment outside of the Deanery. We wish him all the very best in his new parish and will miss him greatly.
