CATHOLIC CHILDREN’S SOCIETY (PLYMOUTH) NEWS

Thank you to all our loyal supporters who generously gave to our Annual Appeal ‘Step Forward, Reach Out and Help’ last summer, which raised over £17,000.  Thank you also to those parishes who generously donated their crib collection monies as your support means even more to us at the current time, as many of our usual fundraising activities are still on hold because of Covid-19.  The number of applications we received for our help through our Essential Grants programme rose by 95 to a staggering 314 in 2021 and we envisage this number rising even more in 2022.  We are only able to help these vulnerable children and their families who live in our Diocese thanks to the generosity of you all.

We are still looking for more CCSP Parish Volunteers

We are delighted that a number of parishes have stepped forward and now have a Parish Volunteer in place to help us with our fundraising once it is safe for us to do so.  There is a ladder of involvement and some parishes just want to MAINTAIN AND MONITOR our supply of CCSP promotional material, whilst others want to help PROMOTE organised CCSP fundraising events such as the Annual Appeal and the Great Big Diocesan Quiz and some are happy to get more involved by ORGANISING fund raising events of their own.

A Parish Volunteer pack has now been produced contact Vicki Dunstone by calling 01364 645420 or emailing vicki.dunstone@prcdtr.org.uk

Thank you for your continued support of the Catholic Children’s Society (Plymouth) especially during these unprecedented times.

Fundraising news from the Catholic Children’s Society (Plymouth)

Children raise over £2,000 !!
Over £2,000 was raised from our first ever sponsored ‘Sleep on the Floor for a Night’ and we are thrilled as this was double what we set out to achieve at the start of December.  This money will enable us to help approximately 20 vulnerable children.  Thank you to all the children who took part – here are just a few of the superstars who gave up their bed for a night to help raise money for other children less fortunate than themselves.

Calling all budding artists – new competition for 2021
Following the success of the first Design a Christmas Card competition back in 2019, we are delighted to announce that we will be running another competition later this year.  337 entries were received from 11 schools in the Diocese and we hope that our 2021 competition will prove even more popular.

Schools will be invited to ask their children to get creative and if you know of any primary school children who like to draw and would like to enter, please contact vicki.dunstone@prcdtr.org.uk for an entry form.

Please look out for the packs of Christmas cards, which will be available later in the year for everyone to purchase to help us raise much needed funds to replace some of our lost income caused by Covid-19.

Great Big Diocesan Quiz - new date has been booked !
We are delighted to announce that we have a date for our next Great Big Diocesan Quiz, as last year’s quiz in April had to be cancelled due to the pandemic.

We’re looking for parishes to join us on Friday, 24 September 2021 at 7.30pm and we would love to make this our biggest quiz ever.  The last quiz in 2019 saw 9 teams including one school compete for the trophy, which was won on the night by Heretics from Blessed Sacrament and almost £1500 was raised.

All you need is to find a quiz master and a venue to host your parish quiz and then ask for teams to come forward to compete against each other in your parish on the night and against all the other parishes.  If you would like to register an interest to take part or would like to discuss the quiz in more detail, please email vicki.dunstone@prcdtr.org.uk - all materials will be supplied by CCSP – you just need to find a venue and some teams to compete.  Good luck !

Would you like to become a Parish Volunteer for the CCSP ?
Do you enjoy organising coffee mornings, raffles, tombolas and quizzes ?  Do you have a little spare time each month and would like to help vulnerable children and their families ?

If the answer to either of these questions is yes, perhaps you might like to consider becoming a Parish Volunteer maybe even jointly with one or two friends ?  We are looking for Parish Volunteers throughout the Diocese to help the Catholic Children’s Society (Plymouth) to raise funds for our Essential Grants programme as our fundraising income has been severely affected since the pandemic began early last year.  As lockdown restrictions begin to ease and only when it is safe to do so, we hope to be able to hold fundraising events again to replace some of our lost income and would love to hear from anyone who can offer us a little help.  We are hoping to produce a Parish Volunteer pack to help parishioners to support the Catholic Children’s Society (Plymouth) in each parish.  If you are interested in finding out more or in putting your name forward, please contact vicki.dunstone@prcdtr.org.uk or call 01364 645420.
