The Cathedral has a dedicated Children's Liturgy Team which runs almost every Sunday at the 10am Mass. At liturgy the children learn about the Word of God and the life of Jesus. All our team members are required to have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check completed every three years.
Children aged from 4 up to 8 who have not received their first Holy Communion. We do welcome children under 4, but we do insist that children under 4 are accompanied by an adult (parent or guardian preferably).
Each week our children use "The Complete Children's Liturgy Book", by Katie Thompson, and we read the same Gospel that is read in Church. We then create a poster based on what we have learnt. Following the collection in the Church we go back to show the Church what we have learnt. We then return to our families for the rest of the Mass.
We congregate close to the Altar before the Mass, and once the Priest and Altar Servers have venerated the Altar the Priest will hand us our Liturgy book and we process down the aisle of the Church and into the Cathedral Centre where we spend 20 minutes learning about the Gospel in an age appropriate way.
We return to the Mass after the Collection has been taken and show the Priest the work that we have done, before returning to our families for the Consecration.
If you would like your son or daughter to attend our Children's Liturgy please download and print out our Enrolment Forms and bring them along to your child's first session.
Liturgy runs every week during term time, including half term holidays.
Our Liturgy Planner can be found be clicking here which will open up a Word file which contains details of our dates and the subjects we'll cover.
