Children's Liturgy & Activities

May we always care for our children, not counting the cost, so that they may never believe themselves to be mistakes, but always know their infinite worth.
Pope Francis

Children's Liturgy

Our aim for the children who join us is that they learn about the Word of God and the life of Jesus in a way that is accessible and understandable to them, and that they have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss the themes that are presented in the Gospel in a way that will help them to understand their faith.
Each week we read the exact same Gospel that is read during the Mass, using 'The Complete Children's Liturgy Book' by Katie Thompson.  We spend time helping the children to think about the message of the Gospel and then we have child friendly activities before we return to the Mass for the Consecration.

All our team members are required to have a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check completed every three years so you can rest assured that your children's safety is of the upmost importance to us.

Activities to entertain the children at home

LOOK - Weekly activities for children

LOOK is a Sunday sheet for children between 4-9 years old providing Gospel-focused activities and games for younger children. It is useful for children’s liturgy, school religious education and for family use.

Each week the Gospel story is explained in age appropriate language. A prayer and a variety of activities that will engage the children are included to help each child get to know the person of Jesus.

LOOK links faith to the everyday lives of children.

Lenten Activities

Stations of the cross with candles

Picture
Children love candles! Use this simple prayer format to engage the family in the  Passion of Jesus. Beginning with 12 lit candles, read each station and extinguish a candle until all is dark.

Based on a version of the Via Crucis used by Pope John Paul II at the Colosseum in Rome, this worksheet can be used to engage children in the Passion story. Working through each station, allow time for the children to reflect on each station and complete the activity. Say the prayer together before moving to the next station.

Meet & Make

Every second Saturday from 4pm to 5pm we invite all children, along with their parents, to come and enjoy some creative crafts and conversation.  It's a free event run by the Children's Liturgy staff and alongside the crafting there are refreshments available.
Come along and join us for crafts and conversation.
Future dates: Currently suspended due to Covid restrictions
